Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding Techniques
In these techniques, a soft plastic device is wrapped around the stomach to decrease its ability to hold food or other contents. Because the amount of inflation is adjustable, it can be tailored to your needs. The band can also be deflated completely when it is not needed, as well, such as during pregnancy.
Lap Band
- The LAP-BAND by Allergan is an adjustable, inflatable soft plastic device that wraps around the stomach to lessen the amount of contents able to be held by the stomach. It is removable and reversible but can be adjusted to provide an ongoing or augmented reduction in the stomach's capacity.
Realize
- The REALIZE Band by Ethicon is another device that also wraps around the stomach to lessen the amount of contents able to be held by the stomach.
